Have you seen our new exhibition in the newly renovated Golden History Center? More than 80 objects and photographs from the decades-old City of Golden collection, including tools from one of the town’s first professional dentists and a superb collection of Coors pottery, are on display. Each of the objects in the Show & Tell exhibition tells a unique story about Golden history, from the 18-foot-long Foss Drug sign to Jolly Rancher memorabilia and a treasure box used to carry gold and soldiers’ wages on the Wells Fargo stagecoach.
Every Friday, June, July, and August
Noon to 1 pm
Mark your calendar for live music at the Golden History Center’s patio. Buy a sandwich and listen to live banjo and other fun bluegrass music, featuring local artist Warren Kennison, Jr. Afterward, explore the new Show & Tell exhibit and you’ll get one dollar off admission. Cost: free!

The Territory of Colorado was created by Congress in 1861, and Golden was its second capital. Under the shadow of controversial circumstances, Denver ultimately won the race to be the permanent capital by one vote.
Just nine years after this contest, Colorado earned the nickname "Centennial State" because it became the 38th addition to the Union during the centennial year of the Declaration of Independence. On August 1, 1876, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the proclamation making statehood a reality.
To celebrate this event, Golden History Museums is offering free admission to state residents on Sunday, August 1. Just show your valid Colorado driver’s license at either the Astor House Museum or Golden History Center, and spend an hour or two learning some fascinating local stories about Golden.
